Trickstuff Direttissima

Disc-Brake-Group-Test-2016-#22-28

Fitting Direttissima brakes is making a statement, that you want the most exclusive, no matter what the cost! Manufactured in Germany their construction screams quality, with heavily milled levers that feature four ball bearings per side, and teflon seals to ensure the four pistons slide smoothly. They’re also the most powerful brake in this test. In fact, they’re so powerful we could not measure their performance in the lab as their vice-like grip exceeded the safety cutout for the dyno, setting alarm bells ringing. With enough power to stop a charging AMG G-Wagon the Direttissima are fearsome stoppers, far more powerful than any other in the test.

Would that make them a handful on the trails? Yes! Modulation from the beautifully machined levers is exceptionally smooth and precise, the long throw levers are perfectly balanced and offer exceptional feedback. All testers raved about the lever pull which is effortlessly smooth with one finger and so intuitive they feel like something borrowed from a fighter jet. But, with so much power you do have to be very careful with the violent braking forces that can be unleashed; with a stronger pull you may as well have jammed a stick in the spokes! For those who enjoy mind altering deceleration then the Direttissimas are unequalled. But be warned, with great power comes great responsibility and clumsy riders will find them a real handful.
