Hope Tech3 X2

Disc-Brake-Group-Test-2016-#22-29

The Hope X2 Calipers borrow the same excellent Tech 3 Lever as found in their E4 bigger brother, but have a smaller, lighter two piston caliper (16g saving per brake). The Tech 3 lever offers tool-free adjustment of bite point and reach and works exceptionally well. The lever design is not flip-flop, but Hope can supply adaptors for SRAM and Shimano shifter compatibility. Wereally liked the X2’s for trail and XC duties; their buttery smooth modulation was as good as the E4’s and they were quiet and totally reliable.

A whole season of XC racing and riding did not unsettle them once, and despite frequent pad changes they only needed one bleed to bring them back to their original performance. When the terrain got a bit more gravity-oriented and rowdy, we were left wanting more power, and on very steep terrain we felt like we were reaching the limits of the brake (they recorded the slowest 45 – 0 kph times). For XC and trail duties, the X2 are a fit-and-forget option. For more gravity fun, we would certainly recommend adding 32g of weight and choosing the bigger and more powerful E4 caliper.
