Some of you may not have heard of the Slovenian brand Unior yet. Still it is one of the biggest manufacturers of professional workshop equipment in the bicycle sector. Luckily they’re not just building containers, trays and complete workshop solutions, but also cater for the amateur mechanic. The tools in the Pro Home Set offer the best quality out of the entire test field and despite the compact dimensions of the case, the kit includes all of our mandatory tools except for a 10 mm Allen key (hexagon and torx only as a star key). Also more than half of our “nice to have” list is covered. The three-pin cassette holder for 11/12 tooth cogs features a clever system of extended pins on the 12-tooth side. This allows you to bypass the smallest 10-t sprocket of modern mtb cassettes and grab the second-smallest sprocket – what a genius solution.

It’s a shame that there isn’t any room for additional tools. Unior throws in a simple but effective wheel alignment gauge which can be attached to either the fork or the rear frame. Unfortunately the case itself struggles to match the superb quality of the tools. The buckles are tough but the plastic is thin and flimsy. The quality of the foam insert is great but ours wasn’t glued on properly and fell out when we opened the box. The anchoring of the tools could be slightly tighter and Unior decided not to include a partition mat. Having said that, if top quality tools are your priority and you want to acquire a good basis to start your very own home-workshop, the Pro Home Set is a great choice if you can overlook the poor quality of the plastic case.
