Giro Montaro MIPS | € 179.95 | 377 g (M) | 3 sizes

A year ago the Giro Montaro MIPS won the coveted Design & Innovation Award, and since then it’s been everywhere we look on the trails. And rightly so – the Montaro doesn’t appear to have any notable weakness. It’s a stylish crowd pleaser, and the design is on the right side of radical so that it doesn’t split opinions. It sports a clean, four-point strap system, and it’ll effortlessly suit a range of head shapes.

The visor has ample adjustment so you can fit goggles under it. (Incidentally, goggles are super-compatible with the Montaro thanks to the rubber inserts at the rear of the helmet that work really well with goggle straps). Not just a guarantee for a good fit, the antimicrobial pads also soak up sweat superbly. The helmet’s fit is basically a certainty thanks to the intricate Roc Loc Air fitting system too. On hot days, the Montaro has sufficient airflow to keep you cool. And if you’re still not convinced, there’s also an attachable POV camera and headlamp mount. It’s not cheap at € 179.95, but that’s just a smidgen over the average in this group test.
