Best value: Giro Chronicle MIPS

While the Giro Montaro MIPS secured the victory in our 2017 helmet group test, this time we opted for the significantly cheaper Chronicle MIPS. Like its expensive counterpart, the Chronicle offers a superb fit, which made it one of our test crew’s favourites, right from the word go! The workmanship is a little on the basic side, but still very reasonable considering the € 119.99 price tag. If we could change one thing on this helmet, we would like to see the base and edges of the EPS foam covered with a protective plastic shell. The Chronicle extends far down the back of the head providing good coverage and protection. The MIPS system is made of transparent plastic, which is a little more discreet than the standard bright-yellow version, though functionally there are no differences.

The huge visor of the Chronicle fits the modern enduro-look and can be adjusted in three positions. Having said that, the positions are quite far apart and intended to make room for goggles rather than provide fine adjustments. On the trail, the Chronicle feels discreet and unobtrusive, providing a great level of comfort and good ventilation even on long rides. Despite the small price-tag, the Chronicle doesn’t compromise on safety – a well deserved Best Value Tip!
